For windows VSTs, often copy protection (like iLok) doesn't work, but if it just needs a serial number, then install it under wine. My recommendations would be Bitwig, Reaper or Renoise (bitwig is my main DAW), though if you use FL you might like LMMS. As for a DAW, personally I wouldn't go for a windows DAW on wine.

Patch librarians outside of the novation setup are hit or miss, but I don't tend to save patches often so that's not really relevant to me. USB midi tends to just work, as so midi interfaces. Other hardware can often be updated by sysex over MIDI, it's just a matter of getting the sysex (in the past I've had to look through a binary and cut a sysex out). As for for firmware updates, novation components, which is provided as a web app that works on chrome. Sometimes you have to do one time configurations on another computer then just rely on the class compliance. If you want to use Linux for music you often don't have access to any of the additional configuration software. I've used Linux as my primary os for almost 25 years so I didn't exactly transition to it, but I can offer some tips.
